Gaming no longer taboo for regulators or society in Brazil
Cardama: “Brazil has taken a big step towards the implementation of online and remote sports betting”
Brazil has shown to the world, once again, its potential in gaming by hosting Online Gaming Summit Brasil 2018 (OGS) in São Paulo. There were up to the minute debates on the local industry over two days, on topics such as sports betting regulations, strengthening of lotteries and federal approval of other gaming formats.

“After the recent approval of sports betting legislation within bill PM846, by both legislative houses, Brazil has taken a big step towards the implementation of online and remote sports betting. Now we are anxiously awaiting the presidential sanction, so that millions of dollars in investments can reach Brazil,” said Carlos Cardama, director of Games Magazine Brasil.
“Through high-level discussions about the regulation of online gaming and sports betting that took place during OGS, Games Magazine Brasil is very happy to have participated actively in the event and we are sure that soon the country will join this market, which keeps on growing all over the world,” added Cardama. “We can no longer be paddling against the tide in the gaming industry – and I speak about all possible modalities – since it is an active sector of the economy, generating wealth, jobs, tourism and tax revenue.”
Clarion Events was able to bring to the famous Pacaembu stadium, in São Paulo, the main players and experts of the online and betting sector in the country and abroad, as well as bringing together members of the government who are directly or indirectly involved in the sector.
Propositional and analytical discussions on topics such as integrity, investments, security, marketing, etc. showed that online betting should not be seen as something strange or dangerous, but as an economic activity capable of attracting much investment to Brazil.
Successful examples were cited such as those of the UK, Colombia – which is making good progress in this sector – and the United States, which is opening up to the sports betting segment.
Brazil is on track for regulating the sector and the high level of the debates show that the issue is no longer taboo for regulators and especially for society, which will benefit most from the adoption of strong regulation.
“Games Magazine Brasil came out refreshed after OGS and awaits the next opportunity to meet big names and companies in the industry to celebrate the victory of common sense and the birth of an important sector for Brazil,” concluded Carlos Cardama.
