Mims Davies becomes UK sports minister
Responsible for gambling, horse racing, sport and the national lottery
Following the sudden resignation of Tracey Crouch from the position of sports minister, citing the delay in implementation of gambling legislation reforms, Mims Davies takes over as UK sports minister, responsible for gambling, horse racing, sport and the national lottery.

Crouch resigned following the government decision to delay the change in maximum stake on FOBTs until October 2019. Crouch was rooting for earlier implementation of the reduction to a maximum cap of £2.
The 43-year-old Davies became a Member of Parliament in 2015 on a Conservative ticket, representing Eastleigh. She had been a local radio presenter for the AA, the BBC and the police. Davies was appointed an Assistant Government Whip in January 2018 and subsequently to the role of Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Wales in July.
Crouch tweeted: “Congratulations Mims Davies! You’ll be brilliant, and I know the fantastic team at the DCMS will look after you well. Enjoy!”
