Call for the 5-Star Hotel Casino international tender will be extended for 90 days

The Ministry of Tourism and the Intendencia de Rocha, a province in Uruguay’s southeast Atlantic, called out for expressions of international interest in the tender for the construction of a 5-star hotel with casino in a location between La Paloma and Chuy beaches.
In a press conference, by Minister Germán Cardoso and Mayor Alejo Umpiérrez, last week, said that, “this is part of the plans to diversify the tourist offer and generate work in the province.” The call for the international tender will be extended for 90 days and is part of the private initiative regime laid down in Articles 19 and 20 of Law No 17.555 and Regulatory Decree No 442/002. The premises must have access from national routes or neighbourhood roads, and the operation of the casino may begin after the hotel works are complete.

Cardoso said that the tender arises from the need to diversify the tourist offering of Rocha province: “It is a very important step in planning the implementation of development policies, where the management of State Casinos and the course taken has been to add new contributions to the tourism development of the country,” the Secretary of State said, adding that Rocha is a jurisdiction endowed with natural resources and beautiful coastlines. “Such an infrastructure will be of stimulation, development and differentiation of a destiny in terms of providing an offer that does not exist today.”
Cardoso, explained further, that the tender was open to entirely private projects that could be located on private premises, but also contemplated the possibility of offers being made on state mixed standards. In that regard, he said that several companies had already expressed interest in the Rocha project.
