UK Gambling Commission suspends Targetlocal remote licence

The operator behind Ken Howell’s Sports Betting may continue processing customer withdrawals while the regulator conducts its review

The Gambling Commission has suspended the combined remote operating licence held by Targetlocal Ltd after regulatory enquiries identified anti-money laundering failings.

Targetlocal trades online as Ken Howell’s Sports Betting and operates kenhowells.com. Its suspended licence covers remote casino gaming, real-event betting and virtual-event betting.

The suspension of operating licence 000422-R-336567-002 took immediate effect and will remain in place until the Commission is satisfied that the business is compliant.

Licence review launched under Gambling Act

The regulator is conducting a review under section 116 of the Gambling Act 2005, which allows it to investigate whether activities are being conducted in accordance with licence conditions and whether an operator remains suitable to hold a licence.

The Commission has not announced the final outcome of the review or detailed the specific anti-money laundering deficiencies identified during its enquiries.

While the suspension remains active, Targetlocal must treat its customers fairly and keep them fully informed about developments that affect their accounts or funds.

Customers can access accounts and withdraw funds

The regulatory action does not prevent customers from accessing their existing accounts or withdrawing available balances. Targetlocal can also continue communicating with consumers through its website.

The Commission’s decision applies only to the company’s combined remote operating licence. Targetlocal’s non-remote general betting standard licence is not affected by the suspension.

The distinction means the company’s licensed land-based betting activities can continue, subject to its existing regulatory obligations, while the online operation remains suspended during the review.
