The Villa Soldati event provided residents and community representatives with tools to identify and report technology-related offences
The growing overlap between social media, permanent digital access and online betting is increasing the need for prevention work outside traditional gambling environments.
Lotería de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires (LOTBA) addressed these issues during a new edition of Dialogando BA held in the Villa Soldati neighbourhood on 4 September.
The activity, titled “Prevention through networks: tools to protect ourselves online”, created a space for residents and local community representatives to discuss technology-related crime and other digital risks.
Early detection and reporting channels
Participants received practical information intended to help them identify warning signs at an early stage.
The workshop also presented institutional channels through which residents can request guidance, obtain assistance or report suspected offences.
The programme was organised with the Dialogue and Collaborative Public Policies team from the Secretariat of Government and Citizen Relations, the Buenos Aires City Housing Institute and the City Police.
This joint approach brought together public bodies responsible for community engagement, housing, security and gambling oversight.
LOTBA addresses online betting risks
LOTBA was represented by its Gambling Behaviour team, which provided information about online betting and the risks linked to continuous access through digital devices.
The presentation also examined how gambling content reaches users through social media and advertising. These channels can make betting more visible and accessible, particularly among younger or otherwise vulnerable audiences.
LOTBA approached the issue from a preventive perspective, helping families and community representatives understand the differences between legal and illegal betting activity, recognise risky behaviour and identify where to seek support.
The regulator said participation in Dialogando BA strengthens its direct relationship with families and territorial organisations. It also supports coordination between different areas of the Buenos Aires City Government when addressing risks that combine gambling, technology and online crime.
