ICONIC21 appoints Gary Francis as Director of Business Development

The former BetGames, Pragmatic Play and bet365 commercial leader joins as ICONIC21 expands across regulated markets

ICONIC21 has appointed Gary Francis as Director of Business Development, strengthening its commercial team as the iGaming content provider accelerates its international expansion.

Francis joins with more than 15 years of iGaming experience across operator and supplier roles. His appointment comes as ICONIC21 expands its operator network and prepares to enter new regulated markets.

The move gives ICONIC21 senior commercial leadership at a time when its product portfolio is widening across live casino, slots and RNG content.

Francis most recently served at BetGames as Head of Commercial and Head of Account Management. In that role, he managed commercial relationships and supported account growth in major markets.

His earlier experience includes roles with Pragmatic Play and bet365, where he developed expertise in player engagement, VIP account management and operational leadership.

That background gives him experience on both sides of the commercial table. He has worked with operators that need strong content performance and suppliers that need long-term distribution, account management and market access.

For ICONIC21, that mix is useful as the company moves from product growth into broader international scale.

The provider has been building a more complete content offer. ICONIC21’s portfolio now includes live casino, slots, virtual games, promo tools, dedicated studios and custom game solutions.

Its recent distribution agreement with Blue Ocean Gaming also made ICONIC21’s live casino, slots and RNG portfolio available through the aggregator’s GameHub platform.

That type of aggregation partnership can be important for a growing supplier. It gives content wider operator reach without requiring every commercial relationship to begin with a direct technical integration.

ICONIC21 said Francis’ appointment reflects its commitment to developing commercial activity while both its portfolio and partner network continue to grow.

The company’s live casino line has been gaining visibility, while its slots and RNG products continue to expand.

The supplier also pointed to product launches using formats that are new to the market, placing more importance on experienced commercial leadership.

Gary Francis, Director of Business Development at ICONIC21

“ICONIC21 is at a really exciting stage. The products are strong, the team is ambitious, and what they’ve achieved in such a short space of time speaks for itself.

“What attracted me was that it isn’t just big ambitions and promises – the company is already delivering. It felt like the right time to join, and I’m very much looking forward to being part of what comes next.”

The appointment also supports ICONIC21’s regulated-market strategy. Entering regulated jurisdictions requires more than content. Suppliers need commercial relationships, certification planning, partner trust and a clear understanding of operator requirements.

Francis’ experience with major iGaming brands should help ICONIC21 manage those conversations as it builds its pipeline.

Alina Mihaela Popa, Chief Commercial Officer at ICONIC21

“Gary is the obvious person to take on this role since we are expanding quickly, our commercial pipeline is solid, and the regulated markets we plan to enter in the coming years need exactly the kind of experience and level of relationship that Gary has.

“He has worked at the top level with both operators and suppliers, and he knows what is required to set up and maintain the kind of partnerships that lead to long-term commercial growth. We are happy to have him joining us and are confident that his input will be highly noticeable.”

The hire comes at a key point for ICONIC21. The company is expanding in multiple directions through product development, distribution partnerships and a stronger commercial structure.

That growth creates opportunity, but it also raises execution demands.

Operators want suppliers that can deliver reliable content, clear support, market-ready integrations and product roadmaps that match local player behaviour.

Commercial leadership is central to that process. A strong business development function can help turn product momentum into signed partnerships, regulated-market entries and sustained revenue.

For ICONIC21, Francis’ appointment is therefore not only a personnel update. It is part of a wider push to build a more mature commercial platform around its expanding content portfolio.

The next stage will be measured by how effectively the company converts its product development and distribution partnerships into operator growth across new markets.
