The player-protection app combines blocking technology, parental controls, recovery tools and support in more than 40 African languages
Gamble-Pause has launched a gambling-blocking application designed for African markets, extending self-exclusion beyond individual operators through controls covering licensed, offshore and identified illegal platforms.
The responsible gambling organisation, which is a Safer Gaming Charity Partner of WorldGaming, says its Gamble-Pause App combines preventive technology with recovery and support services. The platform is initially operational in Nigeria and has been designed for expansion across the continent.
Protection across multiple gambling environments
At the centre of the app is the Pan-African Guard, a system developed to block access to gambling sites across multiple operators and jurisdictions. Users can activate a voluntary blocking period of at least one year.
The organisation says its database is continually updated to include identified unlicensed and black-market operators. Users can also report illegal platforms, contributing information intended to strengthen the system’s coverage.
The app additionally restricts access to prediction markets and related services that may act as gambling triggers. Device-level parental controls are available to help guardians limit young people’s exposure to gambling websites and content.

Recovery tools and local-language support
Gamble-Pause says the application is intended to support longer-term behavioural change rather than operate solely as a website blocker. Its personalised dashboard allows users to monitor their activity, maintain gambling-free streaks and record milestones.
The platform includes achievement badges, progress tracking, educational material and access to responsible gambling and counselling assistance. Support is available through live chat and telephone services.
According to Gamble-Pause, the app supports more than 40 African languages and recommends a language based on the user’s location. This is intended to make information and assistance more accessible across different communities.

The development team also says the application has been optimised to continue operating when mobile devices enter battery-saving modes or impose background restrictions.
Planned additions include expanded detection of offshore operators, further language support, financial-literacy resources and enhanced recovery and intervention tools.
While Gamble-Pause describes the product as Africa’s first Pan-African gambling-blocking application, that distinction is the organisation’s own claim. The effectiveness and geographical coverage of the technology will depend partly on adoption, database maintenance and collaboration with regulators, operators, payment companies and technology providers.
