CIRSA strengthens Portugal presence with Casino Figueira acquisition

The deal gives CIRSA its first land-based casino in Portugal and completes its omnichannel strategy alongside CasinoPortugal.pt

CIRSA has reinforced its position in Portugal with the acquisition of a majority stake in Sociedade Figueira Praia, S.A., the owner and operator of Casino Figueira.

The deal gives CIRSA its first land-based casino in Portugal and adds a major physical venue to its existing digital presence in the country. The group already controls CasinoPortugal.pt, the online operator it acquired in December 2024.

Casino Figueira is located in Figueira da Foz, one of Portugal’s main Atlantic coast tourism destinations. The venue has held a gaming licence since 1948, when it operated under the name Casino da Figueira, making it one of the most historic casinos in the Iberian Peninsula.

Beyond its gaming offer, Casino Figueira has a strong restaurant and events business. That broader entertainment mix makes it a recognised leisure destination in Portugal and gives CIRSA a platform that extends beyond gaming revenue alone.

The acquisition is aligned with CIRSA’s omnichannel strategy. By combining CasinoPortugal.pt with Casino Figueira, the group now has both a solid digital platform and a reference land-based casino in the Portuguese market.

For CIRSA, the deal completes the construction of an integrated gaming and entertainment proposition in Portugal. It also strengthens the group’s position in one of Europe’s regulated markets with clear growth potential.

Joaquim Agut, Executive Chairman of CIRSA

“Casino Figueira becomes CIRSA’s first physical casino in Portugal, representing a new milestone in our history. This acquisition, together with that of CasinoPortugal.pt in 2024, strengthens our ability to offer an integrated gaming and entertainment proposition through online and land-based channels.”

CIRSA said the transaction also adds a respected local management team and the support of existing partners as the casino enters its next stage.

Antonio Hostench, CEO of CIRSA

“Casino Figueira is an emblematic asset within Portugal’s entertainment sector, with a solid track record and a management team with deep knowledge of the market. We are very pleased to incorporate this casino and to have the support of its current partners in this new stage. This transaction strengthens our presence in Portugal and represents a decisive step in our omnichannel growth strategy in Europe.”

The company said the transaction multiple is in line with previous acquisitions completed by CIRSA. The deal will be financed with available cash and is not expected to have a significant impact on the group’s leverage.

For operators, the acquisition highlights the value of combining online gaming with land-based casino assets in regulated European markets. An omnichannel model allows a group to connect brand visibility, customer data, loyalty, events, hospitality and digital play under one wider strategy.

For Portugal, the move places a major international gaming operator deeper into the market. CIRSA already had an online route through CasinoPortugal.pt, but Casino Figueira gives it a physical entertainment anchor with history, local recognition and tourism relevance.

For CIRSA, the timing also fits its wider expansion pattern. The group has continued to pursue selective acquisitions that strengthen its position in regulated markets and broaden its mix across retail, casino and online operations.

The acquisition of Casino Figueira therefore does more than add another asset. It gives CIRSA a complete Portuguese structure, linking online gaming with a historic casino venue and supporting the group’s wider European omnichannel growth strategy.
