The 17 operators monitored by Apuesta Legal increased their estimated visits from Chile from 19.5 million to 24.9 million in one year
Estimated visits from Chile to 17 online betting operators monitored in an Apuesta Legal study increased by 28% year-on-year, rising from 19.5 million in August 2025 to 24.9 million in August 2026.
The figures, based on Similarweb data, were shared by Mario Benites, Digital PR & Outreach Specialist for Latin America at Apuesta Total. They measure estimated website visits rather than individual bettors, betting turnover or operator revenue.
The growth occurred during the 12 months following the September 2025 Supreme Court ruling that ordered internet providers to block access to certain online betting sites in Chile.
In August 2026, the final month covered by the study, the 17 operators accounted for 81% of all traffic within the analysed sample. Lotería de Concepción and Polla Chilena de Beneficencia represented the remaining 19%.
World Cup drives traffic to its highest level
Traffic did not increase consistently throughout the period. In September 2025, when the Supreme Court delivered its ruling, the monitored operators received an estimated 21.2 million visits from Chile.
Traffic reached its highest point in July 2026, coinciding with the conclusion of the FIFA World Cup, when visits climbed to 32.1 million.
The figure fell to 24.9 million in August but remained approximately 17% above the level recorded before the judicial decision.
More brands compete for Chilean players
The increase in traffic coincided with a broader presence of betting brands in the market.
According to Blask data included in the research, Chile had 145 active betting brands during the first quarter of 2026, seven more than a year earlier. The platform’s demand index, which reflects search interest rather than website visits, increased by approximately 42%.
Among the brands analysed, Apuestas Royal grew from an estimated 1.09 million Chilean visits in June to 2.39 million in August, an increase of nearly 120% in two months.
The growth coincided with the operator’s sponsorship agreements with 11 clubs in Chile’s Liga de Primera. However, the available data does not establish a direct causal relationship between those sponsorships and the increase in traffic.
Smaller operators also began attracting audiences. Awintura increased from approximately 3,530 visits in June to 52,708 in August, while JetBet recorded an estimated 10,366 visits during August.
New blocking measures introduced in September
September 2026 marked a new stage in the implementation of online betting restrictions in Chile.
On September 1, the Subsecretaría de Telecomunicaciones, known as Subtel, instructed Entel, Movistar, Claro, GTD, WOM and VTR to block 42 URLs through the Domain Name System within 48 hours. The addresses had been reviewed by the Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego.
During the following weeks, several platforms communicated alternative domains to their users.
On September 21, Subtel issued another instruction covering 37 domains, subdomains and mirror sites associated with online betting platforms. Some were connected to brands included in the first blocking order.
The successive instructions demonstrate how Chile’s blocking mechanism is being updated as additional addresses associated with these platforms are identified.
Impact of latest blocking orders remains unknown
The research covers traffic data only up to August 2026. It therefore cannot measure the effect of the two rounds of DNS blocking implemented during September.
Before those measures took effect, the 17 monitored operators were receiving more visits from Chile than one year earlier, while additional brands continued to gain visibility and market presence.
September’s data will provide the first indication of whether the latest blocking orders have reduced traffic to these platforms or redirected users towards alternative domains.
