At A Crossroads: The Future of Finland’s Gambling Policy

Webinar set for Thursday, 09 September (15.00-16.00 CEST)

The Finnish government is currently preparing to update the country’s online gambling laws, with discussions in Parliament foreseen to start in September. Consumer protection will be high on the agenda amid heated public debate about the country’s gambling monopoly and its image, with monopoly beneficiaries increasingly calling for a reform of their funding. Finland’s gambling policy is at a crossroads and it faces a clear choice: stick with its current monopoly system or follow the example of other EU countries by introducing multi-licensing for online gambling.

The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) invites you to join us on Thursday, 09 September (15.00-16.00 CEST) for a lively webinar debate about Finland’s online gambling policy, its monopoly system, the multi-licensing alternative, and the advantages and disadvantages of both, with a focus on the experiences of Finland and other EU member states.

Amongst the topics for discussion are: Finland’s regulated and unregulated online gambling market; Gambling harm and prevention; Contributions to good causes;

Learnings from other European countries.

Confirmed speakers for the Webinar, so far are: Birgitte Sand, former CEO of the Danish Gambling Authority; Rolf Sims, Public Affairs – Nordics, Kindred Group; Jari Vähänen, The Finnish Gambling Consultants Oy. Moderator: Joe Ewens, Editor, Vixio Gambling Compliance.
